Farewell Dinner
We are planning an informal farewell dinner for Stargirl and El Cajador, who will soon be leaving our MI letterboxing group for new adventures in the Dominican Republic.
Mark Tuesday, July 29 on your calendar… exact time and location will be coming soon, but it will be a restaurant in the greater Grand Rapids (MI) area for dinner. Sorry about the weeknight, but unfortunately scheduling didn’t work out for a weekend. Hopefully there are still some who will be able to join us!
Old and new boxers alike are welcome! This is not really an *event* as we won’t be doing much letterboxing (although I am sure there will be some stamping going on), but it is not a closed gathering, rather is open to anyone who wants to come hang out with a fun group of letterboxers for a few hours and bid farewell to a couple of folks we have come to know and love over the past few years.

Vote for Grand Traverse LH!
You can help the Grand Traverse Lighthouse get new windows and doors by voting at the Jeld-Wen website! The Grand Traverse Lighthouse is one of the 12 finalists for 2008 and if selected, would be the 4th lighthouse to benefit from the Jeld-Wen Reliable Lighthouse Restoration Initiative. The Grand Traverse Lighthouse is located north of Traverse City, MI in Leelanau State Park near Northport. The lighthouse was originally built in 1852 and was for many years maintained and operated by the U.S. Coast Guard. In 1972 when the tower light was replaced by an automated beacon, the USCG vacated the premises. The buildings stood vacant for several years, and in 1985 a local group, known as the Grand Traverse Lighthouse Federation, took on the project of restoring the buildings and grounds for the purpose creating a “living lighthouse” for public enjoyment. The lighthouse, including the tower, is open to the public, and houses a museum which is open during the summer months. The lighthouse grounds are also home to the Grand Traverse Lighthouse LB.

Leelanlau State Park ~ Northport, MI
Leelanau State Park is a wild and scenic area, located at the tip of the Leelanau peninsula on a narrow finger of land that juts out into Lake Michigan between Grand Traverse Bay and Cat’s Head Bay. There are miles of secluded beaches and an extensive network of hiking trails along which you will find the Cathead Bay Letterbox.
